How to Patent an Idea

If you’ve come up with a great idea, then you should protect it from others who may try to copy it and profit from your creativity. In order to protect your idea, you will need to patent it. If you’ve never done this before, you may find the process somewhat intimidating. After all, you will need to dedicate a lot of time towards taking your idea from conception to patent.

To do this, you’ll need to research your idea as well as the market for it. You’ll also be required to come up with a clear description of the idea using very specific terminology. On top of that, you’ll also need to create detailed drawings. Before you get into this whole process, it’s important to note that you can’t patent an idea alone. You’ll get a patent only if you develop an invention from the idea. However, you won’t really have to produce the invention – you can simply include a description of it in your application. http://blogs.bu.edu/lmm588/how-to-patent-an-idea/
